2. DOOM-related information
-------------------------------
Your DOOM config (key bindings, controllers):
Turn left/right - Mouse (vertical axis not disabled)
Forward - Right mouse button
Backward - Space
Strafe left - E
Strafe right - R
Strafe on + Turn left - T (for strafe50)
Shoot - Left mouse button
Although I use joyb_speed 31 now, I still find myself holding down W,
which used to be my old run button...
Size of DOOM directory on your HD:
127 meg for Doom2 and 21 for Ultimate Doom = 148 MB
I try to keep a nice directory structure for the demo .zips I download,
although I have tons of demos in \doom2\ since you don't seem to be able
to play them directly from a subdirectory.
dir \doom2\*.lmp -> 420 files :-)
First contact to COMPET-N (when, how etc.):
Hmm... I actually don't remember, I might have heard of it through
Chrozoron...
First COMPET-N demo:
pa32-024.lmp
Favourite COMPET-N demo(s) from yourself (the one(s) that you're most proud of):
I only have two records for the original .wads at the moment, I guess
I'm most satisfied with pa22-103, since that was a pretty hard map.
On the Pwad side, I like the trick demos, such as mm08-024.
Favourite COMPET-N demo(s) from others:
Even though I know the movies require great amounts of skill, I tend
to end up being more impressed with the really short ones.
The demo should contain a trick or two, too. I haven't watched that
many demos yet, but I could mention lv19-041, lv30-030, lv24-037,
u4m2-016, that kind of stuff.
Favourite DOOM or DOOM2 map:
Kinda hard to say... E2M2 is great for Tyson, maybe E1M7 because of design,
map07 is cool for a quick max-run and map28 has good music...
Favourite TC/megawad:
I'd say Requiem, cause I really like Iikka Keranen's style of mapping.
I haven't tried AV yet, though...
Do you like Quake?
I've never played Q1 or Q3, but I've tried some Quake2. It's OK, I guess.
What do you think of DOOM now?
The cool thing about Doom is it's speed and the engine flaws that make
way for things such as strafe-/wallrunning, keygrabs, switch-from-below and
grab-the-weapon-through-the-wall tricks. And of course, the mapping/
speedrunning communities. I play more Doom than other games at times, since
it's so quick to start up and run through a level or four.
Anything you want to add here:
Oyvind is the type of player you could easily overlook. After all, he doesn't produce demos that often.
However, the devil is in the details. Oyvind is a very skilled speedrunner and shows great stuff in PWADs,
also keen on doing hard Pacifist runs (just take a look at his DOOM2 stuff), and making occasional ventures
into Tyson and Max. He's the newest player from the Norwegian school, and don't we all know what that
means? :)
