Steffen 'Rini' Udluft

1. General information
-----------------------

Your name:
Steffen "Rini" Udluft
You live in (city & country):
Munich, Germany
Your birthdate (or age):
April '69
Your occupation/job/studies:
PhD student of physics
Your hobbies:
Windsurfing, Snowboarding, Mountainbiking, Scuba Diving, Programming (especially Computer Games, but no advertisement here) ... is there anything I forgot ;-)
Anything you want to add here (about yourself):
I do not like violence! I hate it in reality and I don't like it in computer games either. But you cannot help it, no game is as interesting, gives as much variety in gameplay, is as much fun as the ugly, violence glorifying shoot'em up style game - DOOM

2. DOOM-related information
-------------------------------

Your DOOM config (key bindings, controllers):
Up to early 1998:
SPEED ON: LEFT SHIFT
STRAFE RIGHT: a
STRAFE LEFT: s
FIRE: d
TURN LEFT: l
TURN RIGHT: '
FORWARD: p
BACK: ;
STRAFE ON: RIGHT ALT (yes I use it to get strafe50)
Keyboard only

Size of DOOM directory on your HD:
500 Mb partition, usually 70% used
First contact to COMPET-N (when, how etc.):
Dec 1996, Poeppy showed me 30nm6520 and 30uv3609
First COMPET-N demo:
lv18-459, beating Daniels 5:10 by taking an optimized route
Favourite COMPET-N demo(s) from yourself (the one(s) that you're most proud of):
Every single of my entries is easy to beat for a whole dozen of players, the only lmps I am a bit proud of are the ones where I did something (hard) first, like re09-923, r4m6-708 and especially ep4-par, where I killed cybie in e4m6 in less than par for the first time, but that's no real COMPET-N entry
Favourite COMPET-N demo(s) from others:
I like Danny Lancashire's old entries (if they are not cheated). His style is very similar to Steffen W. - really cool for a non-cheater. I like the nightmare runs done by Istvan and Anthe. I like Istvan's style of keyboarding. I like Anthe Krens single level nightmare recordings. Playing nm09, nm22, nm29, n4m1 for the first time. I like Daniel's Tyson recordings, oh that's not COMPET-N again. Daniel and Peo are the greatest 100% Kills players. I like the tricks invented by Kai-Uwe, Yonatan, Ilja and some others. Usually I do not care too much who playes a given route best, but who discovers new tricks, and completes a level for the first time in a given style
Favourite DOOM or DOOM2 map:
e4m6
Favourite TC/megawad:
Do you like Quake?
No
What do you think of DOOM now?
It is a superb game, but it can lead you to addiction
Anything you want to add here:
Besides COMPET-N I like DHT very much. I like it most to discover new routes and strategies, playing all DOOM2 maps with -respawn (most of them for the first time) has been a nice thing. Introducing the Pacifist style was very entertaining, especially the work of doomers from all over the world to build the Pacifist base has been an experience I would not like to miss. Check out the Pacifist collection: http://www.cdrom.com/pub/idgames/lmps/pacifist/

The king of -respawn and the father of Pacifist... Rini is the last remaining keyboarder, but it seems he started practicing with the mouse just as the other "mohicans". Rini is more of a strategy man than a die-hard speedrunner, but sometimes he teached DL some lessons over MAP18 :) He had some decent -respawn fights with fellow German Poeppy, mostly coming victorious...
